We went birding on this wonderful headland known as Hemeon or Black Rocks. There's a long sand beach, backed by a high seawall of granite cobble. Behind that natural dike lies a lovely shallow lagoon bounded by salt marsh. Migrating birds feed both on the beach and in the vast lagoon. It's a long walk in, but the views and wildlife are more than worth the effort. I played hookey from birding long enough to sketch one of the views.
