The Swedish biologist Carl Linnaeus invented binomial nomenclature. It is the system by which all organisms are given a two-part Latin name. This unique appellation allows scientists from any part of the world to recognize a species by name, regardless of its country of origin. This lovely little wildflower grows all around the world in northern climes, and it was Linnaeu's favourite. It is also the only one which he graced with his own name: Linnaea borealis.
