Well, the sunflowers survived Hurricane Irene, which turned out to be mostly a non-event on the South Shore except for some brisk southwest winds. However, in the wake of Hurricane Maria - which totally missed Nova Scotia - there was a howling northwest gale. These unforgiving winds dessicated my poor sunflowers and even shredded some of their stems. A sad end to an unexpected pleasure.
